Homework
Read and highlight
important aspects to the response in the report and add these to your case
study.
•TEC Report ‘Impact of
the tsunami response on local and national
capacities’
Watch How The Earth Was Made San Andreas Fault and mind map.

PRE RELEASE 2014!!
Option 1: Tectonic Activity and Hazards
EXPLORE - the range of strategies used to manage tectonic hazards before, during and after their occurrence.
RESEARCH: Contrasting examples of managing a range of primary and secondary tectonic hazards.
I think this is good and fits well with your homework research and report!!

Enquiry question 4
Read and take notes from the following books and pages:-
Byrne, P. et al. (2009) 'Edexcel A2 Geography' pg 176-181
Chaffey et al. (1996) 'Natural Hazards' pg 83-90
Bishop (2001) 'Hazard and Responses) pg 47, 71, 91 ( chapters)
Create detailed notes on how we can manage tectonic hazards. Use case studies to exemplify your notes.
Ensure you have answered each of the specific questions and have a focus of case studies of different development levels and different organisations involved.
Once finished you are going to research a past pre-release in preparation for a timed report writing next week. You need to spend at least 3 hours at home researching this question and reviewing your work.
PRE RELEASE
Explore the factors which influence the effectiveness of responses used by different groups of people to cope with tectonic hazards.
Research volcanic and seismic hazards to examine the range of responses applied to contrasting locations.

Enquiry Question 3
Answer:
What are the trends in frequency and impact
over time (Park Model)?
Visit the EM-DAT website and
collect a selection of maps and graphs related to tectonic hazards. Describe
the patterns.
What is the 'Parks Model' (respose curve)?
Why do people live in tectonic areas?
Read:
What are the specific impacts of a range of
tectonic hazards at a range of scales and at locations in countries
at different stages of development?
Create a range of detailed case studies, they must be a variety in the
different stages of development.
For example: -
Level economic development

Use simple tables to classify impact into
physical/economic/social plus long and short term.
Use the Parks model to draw superimposed profiles
of differing impacts from earthquakes, tsunami and volcanoes
Use the following as a starting point for your research:
New Zealand 2010 and 2011 : Tectonic
Hazards in New Zealand
China: China
Earthquake
Japan Tsunami: The Japanese
Earthquake and Tsunami and Geofactsheet
Indian Ocean: Asian
Tsunami and Analysis
of Response
Montserrat: Volcanic
Eruptions
Homework:
Read and add notes from the following in the correct enquiry question section.
Monday 24 February 2014
Sunday 23 February 2014
Homework week 3
- Continue with research for enquiry question 1. This must be complete by next week. Don't forget to ensure all sources are added to your bibliography section.
- Read enquiry question 2. Highlight all the key words and define these in your glossary.
- Find at least one appropriate source of information and bring it to lesson next week to share with the class.
