Tectonics in the news

Over the weekend two volcanos have erupted.

For homework research the following:

Sinabung  a volcano in Sumatra has been erupting for months. The local people had been allowed back into the area as there was evidence that the volcanic activity was declining. For more information see: the guardian

The second is a volcano in Ecuador. For more information see: http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/asia/9679820/Volcanos-erupt-in-Indonesia-and-Equador

Think about: -
  • What type of a plate margin is this volcano located on?
  • What are the impacts?
  • What are the responses?
  • Think about the duration, magnitude and frequency of these eruption.
  • Is there a link?
